4 Outside the Box Ways to up Your Exercise Routine

If a standard workout is making you feel stagnant, you can try many creative ways to stay in shape so that you’ll remain more engaged in your fitness journey. Thinking outside the box will allow you to break free from dull workouts and tone and strengthen different muscle groups in more ways than you can imagine. Here are four alternative ideas for upping your exercise routine.

Aqua Aerobics

This activity offers a unique spin on the standard aerobics class by allowing participants to get cardio workouts in the water. You won’t have to submerge yourself completely under the water. Typically you will stand with the water up to your waist or deeper. Your head will remain out of the water. Being in water also provides additional resistance for the body that can be good for developing better muscle tone. Many public swimming pools offer aqua aerobics classes that are led by instructors who take participants through a series of exercises to achieve the best results.

Cycling

Instead of driving your car to work or other locations near where you live, you can get there by bike instead. Cycling will give you the chance to enjoy the fresh outdoor air while you strengthen your leg muscles and improve your cardiovascular health. Opting for a bike instead of a car will also be better for the environment and help you reduce your carbon footprint. To keep yourself safe while riding, it’s best to wear a helmet and other safety gear. Make sure to choose routes that are known to be biker-friendly.

Martial Arts

Martial arts can strengthen both your body and mind and also help you defend yourself against dangerous individuals who may try to harm you. Karate, taekwondo and ju-jitsu are just a few of the martial arts disciplines that you can study by enrolling in a class. Wing tsun kung fuis another martial arts form that can be effective in toning your body and developing better self-defense skills.

Dancing

Even though dancing is often considered to be a recreational activity that’s enjoyed at parties and nightclubs, it can also give your body an excellent workout. Dancing works the legs, glutes and many other muscle groups in the body and can greatly enhance your overall fitness. Popular dance styles include ballroom, salsa and hip-hop. Classes are available to teach you whatever dance styles that you want to learn, or you can simply put on some music and move to the rhythm in the comfort (and privacy) of your own home.

Changing up your exercise regimen to include innovative workouts can get you in better shape and add more excitement to your routine. Any of these activities are sure to help you improve your fitness and boost your enthusiasm.
