Seed®, the company disrupting the global probiotics market, lands in Canada
The science-based consumer health company starts shipping its flagship Daily Synbiotic™ to Canada
TORONTO, JULY 2019 – Seed, the US-based microbial sciences company setting a new standard of scientific rigour in the $70 billion global probiotics market, begins shipping to Canada this week. Seed’s approach is a paradigm shift, bridging microbiome science and consumer health to bring much-needed precision, efficacy, and education to consumer probiotics.
Seed’s flagship Daily Synbiotic™, a probiotic + prebiotic formulation, will be available to purchase as a monthly or quarterly subscription. Following Seed’s launch in the US in June 2018, the Daily Synbiotic sold out in less than four months.
“Beneficial microbes [probiotics] can play a systems-wide role in human health alongside diet, exercise, and lifestyle. But as global consumption continues to grow, consumers are increasingly confused by the true health benefits and potential of probiotics. Our products reflect our commitment to reclaim the term ‘probiotic’ for science and to establish a new standard,” said Ara Katz.
Led by Co-Founders and Co-CEOs, Ara Katz and Raja Dhir, and including Chief Scientist, Dr. Gregor Reid, a pioneer in probiotics research, who chaired the United Nations World Health Organization Expert Panel that authored the global definition of the term ‘probiotics’, Seed has been written up and featured in Vogue, Fast Company, Time Magazine and much more since their launch last year.
The Daily Synbiotic™ sets new industry standards
The Daily Synbiotic combines a proprietary formulation of 20+ (20 in male formulation, 24 in female formulation) clinically-studied probiotic strains (not found in yoghurt, most supplements, or fermented foods and beverages) with a new class of organic, patented, plant-based, non-fermenting prebiotics sourced from Indian pomegranate and Scandinavian chaga and pine bark.
“Based on 35 years of research and work in the microbial sciences, the Daily Synbiotic marks the evolution of probiotics and represents the true potential of beneficial microbes for human health,” said Dr. Reid. The Daily Synbiotic was developed for systemic benefits beyond digestive health, including cardiovascular, dermatological, immune, metabolic, and reproductive health. The female formulation is the first to increase folate production within the body.
The Daily Synbiotic is the first in Seed’s pipeline of scientifically-validated probiotics. “New technologies and advances in microbiome research reveal the potential for bacteria to restore and sustain systemic health,” said Dhir. “We’ve assembled an ecosystem of scientists and partners around the world, who share our vision to improve both human and ecological health.”
Seed’s Sustainable Refill System protects the Daily Synbiotic while being gentler on our Earth. The first month’s Welcome Kit includes a glass jar and complimentary travel vial shipped in a compostable mycelium (mushroom-grown) tray. Each subsequent monthly or quarterly refill is shipped in a compostable oxygen and moisture protection bio-based pouch, which is further protected by a compostable and dissolvable corn foam insulator.
International and Canadian customers may also opt-in to Seed’s Sustainable Transport Program for 90-day refills instead of standard 30-day refills to help reduce shipping and, in turn, CO2 emissions. The Standard Refill (30-day) costs $49.99 USD ($65 CDN) + applicable local taxes each month, shipped at a flat rate for $10 USD ($13 CDN) monthly. The Sustainable Transport Program (90-day refills) costs $150 USD ($196 CDN) + applicable local taxes billed every 3 months, and is shipped for free, for savings of $120 USD ($157 CDN) annually.
The Daily Synbiotic is exclusively available at seed.com. For further details on international shipping, please visit seed.com/entire-world.
The Science Behind Seed
Seed’s Scientific Advisory Board is comprised of leading scientists with expertise in microbiology, immunology, genetics, metabolomics, gastroenterology, pediatrics, environmental sciences, and women’s health. The Seed platform combines a proprietary strain bank validated through peer-reviewed human clinical trials with innovations in biofermentation, stabilization, and testing (GI simulation models, human cell line testing, short-chain fatty acid testing, whole genome sequencing) and adheres to the highest global regulatory standards.
Seed’s ecological R+D division, SeedLabs, was founded to develop novel applications for bacteria, partnering with kindred innovators to solve some of the biggest problems facing our collective home. In August 2018, Seed announced their probiotic for honey bees to protect against Colony Collapse Disorder and American Foulbrood Disease. Delivery via Seed’s probiotic BioPatties™ shows immense potential in improving survival rates and restoring honey bee populations around the world. SeedLabs research tracks include soil, the bioremediation of lead in water, bioplastics, and microbes in space.
Seed’s Commitment to Education
Seed is setting a new standard not only in the products, but also the information consumers consume. Their latest initiative provides much-needed education and stewardship of science communication and accountability in influencer marketing.
Launched this June, in beta, @SeedUniversity.is an education platform that requires partners, affiliates, influencers, and ambassadors of the brand to learn before they share. Built entirely on Instagram’s Story Highlights, the 59-minute, six-unit course covers bacteria, the microbiome, human biology, the science of probiotics, as well as disclosure policies per the US FTC’s Endorsement Guide. Through education, accessibility to science, and community (tenets core to their DNA), Seed aims to co-create a future of accountable influence.
Seed is the consumer health division of Seed Health, a microbial sciences company founded to pioneer applications of microbes to improve human and planetary health. Seed develops consumer innovations from leading research with a vision to create a new standard in the global probiotics industry. The flagship Daily Synbiotic launched in 2018 and their pipeline, which targets specific developmental stages and various ecosystems of the body, will continue to rollout worldwide in 2020. The company is co-founded and led by Ara Katz and Raja Dhir, and joined by a team of renowned scientists, clinicians, advisors, partners, and investors across life science, biotech, academia, diagnostics, consumer health, consumer packaged goods, and media.
