4 Benefits of Electrolytes

As a coach and kinesiologist, I often emphasize the importance of proper hydration and nutrition for optimal performance. One essential aspect of this is ensuring adequate electrolyte intake. Electrolytes—including sodium chloride, magnesium, and potassium—are minerals with an electrical charge that play a crucial role in our overall health. Here’s how they can benefit you:

Hydration:

Sodium plays a vital role in hydration—where sodium goes, water follows. Many people focus solely on drinking plain water but neglect electrolytes, which are essential for retaining hydration and maintaining balanced cell function. If you’re drinking plenty of water but still experiencing headaches or fatigue, it might be time to incorporate electrolytes into your routine. I also suggest aiming for 3-4L of water per day to ensure you’re staying properly hydrated.

On my coaching site, Train It Right, I often recommend personalized hydration strategies to help clients stay energized and perform at their best. By adding the right electrolytes to your plan, we can ensure your body functions optimally.

Stress Management:

Stress can wreak havoc on your body, and electrolytes, especially magnesium, are key to managing its effects. Known as the “anti-stress mineral,” magnesium helps regulate the body’s stress response. For my clients navigating high-stress periods, I often incorporate magnesium-rich foods and supplements to support their overall well-being.

Headache & Brain Fog Relief:

Headaches and brain fog can often be linked to an electrolyte imbalance. Magnesium and potassium are particularly helpful for addressing these issues. Through my coaching programs, I provide tailored recommendations to ensure you’re meeting your electrolyte needs, improving both mental clarity and physical performance.

Bloat Support:

Bloating can be frustrating, especially when it’s tied to hormonal shifts. Electrolytes can help by reducing water retention. I recommend options with lower sodium for those experiencing bloating during specific phases of their cycle. Together, we can create a plan that keeps you feeling light and confident.

Let’s Optimize Your Nutrition

Electrolytes are a vital part of achieving your fitness and health goals. If you’re ready to take your performance to the next level, let’s work together to customize a plan that meets your unique needs. Visit Train It Right to learn more about my coaching services and how I can help you train smarter, not harder.

Alicia Bell IFBB Figure Pro and Bodybuilder

I am going to make blogging a daily thing from here on out. Since pre covid I have been inattentive to this blog and my own passions for helping people become the best version of themselves. And that is partially due to the fact I wasn't being the best version of myself. I was in a bad place after a bad relationship and a bad breakup and multiple unhealthy competition preps.

I am making 2024 my mission to find myself again and get in control over everything in my life:

  • Personal
  • Professional
  • Passions
  • Bodybuilding
  • Blogging
  • Vloggng
  • Podcasting
  • Re-building my brand

I wan to show up as the best version of myself. But not just for me but for others.

What does that mean for this blog?

It means content in blogs, reviews, news and all things health and fitness. I love it - even if no one is reading this or seeing my content this platform, YouTube and my podcast are more like journals/documentation of things I love and enjoy. And if I can positively impact anyone while sharing then that brings me joy.

This post is to keep me accountable. So thank you to those who made it this far.

14 Weeks Out - Not Every Day Is Perfect

As you guys know I am in Prep for OPA provincials. I compete in figure competitions. My photos show a strong physique but it takes a lot to get there both mentally and physically.

Lately I have been feeling more stressed than ever with life things. I have a lot on my mind. So I wanted to sit down and write to all my competitor friends, fans and any one else who is interested about how everyday is not perfect. Especially on prep.

On prep you often times have good days and bad days (I mean really bad days). Days where you're tired, hungry, upset, stressed or maybe all of those at once. And then if you are a woman and its that time of the month things seem 1000x worse.

You can't let those bad days throw you off track. You can't let those bad days, slip ups, mistakes or things that are out of your control dictate the rest of your day, week, month or prep. You have to be better than them. You need to learn to move on, move past them and make the rest of whatever is left worth it. Give it your all. Your 110%.

Every prep is a learning experience. A chance to gain knowledge, learn, grow and figure out what works well for you. And if you are lucky you will have a support system. That one person, group of people or even your coach that will listen, understand and support. You need to have at least one person on your side, rooting for you, in your corner and who can empathize what you are going through. Let it out, vent, cry but do not keep those emotions inside. Thats when more stress and problems occur. This will lead to elevated cortisol, hinder your progress and ultimately hinder your prep.

Let go of the people or person who holds you back. The ones who aren't on your side or in your corner rooting for you. Prep is a time to be selfish, put yourself first and do whatever it takes to get you to your goal. Its ok to go through emotions. There is nothing wrong with you. It's a normal part of prep when you are pushing your body to the limit. You are not alone. I have been there and so have many other competitors.

Please hit the button below to donate. I leave for Israel on July 11th.

Every four years, talented Jewish athletes from all over the world meet in Israel for The Maccabiah Games and display courage, determination, sportsmanship and most of all Jewish pride.

I am honored and excited to have qualified and have been chosen as team Canada Sprint and Hurdle Coach to represent Canada at the 19th Maccabiah Games, July 2013. At the Maccabiah Games, “The Jewish Olympics” compete in over 40 different sports and celebrate our Jewish heritage and our love, support and connection to Israel. I will be part of a world delegation of more than 8,000 Jewish athletes. Our Canadian team will be composed of over 600 athletes, coaches, medical and support staff. The Maccabiah is the 3rd largest sporting event in the world and is the most significant social tradition of the Jewish people and the Zionist Movement in recent generations.

Maccabi Canada is a volunteer based national registered amateur sports organization that strives to promote Jewish identity and a strong bond with Israel by using sport as a medium. Through the promotion of athletic, cultural and educational programs,Maccabi Canada has provided a way for the athletes to connect with their roots. Even though I am not Jewish I am honored to be selected as team coach.

There is no feeling like the one an athlete experiences, playing to represent their country. The opportunity to coach at an international meet, and meet lifelong friends and experience growing from the fine athletes of today into the leaders of tomorrow.

The cost of going to the games is high and covers my airfare, accommodation, medical care, insurance, team uniform, and other expenses.

Please support my journey and help me realize my dream of proudly representing Canada by donating to Maccabi Canada in my honour. Any amount will get me closer to my goal, your generosity is greatly appreciated.
