"My Journey!

Not a lot of people know about me and my journey, I am getting a lot of messages regarding my transformation ,what motivated me and how I got into fitness so here I am sharing with you my journey .

Let me introduce myself, I am married and have 2 kids age 13 and 8. Just like a lot of busy mommies out there I hardly made time for myself , I was always busy with my full time job and taking care of my family . I ate unhealthy food and never went to the gym my excuse was I don’t have time, I was over weight . In 2010, when I was going through my old pictures I realized how much weight I have gained.  I missed how I looked in high school and it was then the first time a thought to lose couple of lbs , so I joined a near by gym and followed  some random  diet plan from the internet. At the gym when I use to see fitness competitors I just wished I had their physique they always inspired me and I wished I was one of them , but then I knew it was not possible, too many obstacles  my background, young kids , culture, and I knew my family would never support me. In 2011 I managed to lose some weight however, didn’t follow a proper diet nor a workout plan just random online plans. I continued eating healthy and going to the gym.

In November 2015, a thought “why can’t I compete, if they can do it why can’t I “ haha I had no clue what the process was , had no coach, didn’t know how to walk in heels and never went to see a show . I did not know where and how to start yet, I set a goal for myself that I will compete. I wanted to do something for me , I wanted to take a challenge and prove my self and wanted to follow my dreams.

Initially I wanted to do a show in 2016 started the process and within 2 months I dropped out due to medical and health reasons . It was a set back, took a long break from the gym and diet however that  didn’t stop me , I couldn’t wait to get back to the gym and start training . All I could think of and dreamed about was the stage. In 2017 I decided that this year will be my year and I will do what ever it takes to reach my goal.

I had few coaches and was not happy with them . Then in July 2017 , A friend of mine referred me to Team Trex,  after meeting Alicia I just knew I found my coach, now I  have all the right tools and I can do this , I felt pretty confident. Alicia gave me the right training, motivated me and gave me the right support and guidance that I was looking for . She really cared about me , always checking in making sure I am following the plan and were on track.

I use to hit the gym twice or sometimes three times a day , work full time, participate in all my kids activities, do my meal prep on Sundays and my one on one training sessions with my coach twice a week which was 1-2 hrs of commute .

I have made many sacrifices as they say nothing comes easy , so many hardships and life curve ball thrown at me I overpowered them all . I also lost my job when I was 8 weeks out from my show , it hit me hard yet, I didn’t give up. My biggest supporter is my husband, and a million thanks to this man for the amount of love and support I received from him through the entire prep. I still remember when I first told him “hun I want to compete “ he just looked at me nodded his head and walked away.. lol he thought I was out of my mind, I am in my  mid 30’s , mother of two, not in the greatest shape , don’t have a coach, plus it was a culture thing  so wearing a bikini and walking on the stage was a no no lol . However, he saw how dedicated and determined I was and my love for the sport , he understood and decided to  support me .He supported me mentally and emotionally, motivated me, pushed me to work my hardest at the gym and stood by me all along . This  wouldn’t have been possible without him .

When I stepped on the stage on November 18th it was the best feeling ever, the dream that I have been chasing for the past 2 years come true . I won bikini masters short and I came 3rd in open bikini. I am so proud of what  I was able to accomplish and bring to the stage.  My hard work paid off. It was a lot of hardwork, sacrifices , dedication and discipline to get to were I am today.

We all have our stories what gets us started and this is my story.

I believe “Keep your goals in mind and never underestimate what you are capable of . Dream big !work hard and stay focused "

If you fall off track, hop back on

If you were given $24 and managed to lose $1 would you then throw away the $23 you had left? Of Course not! So why treat your days like that?

Often times, were on a program to help us accomplish goals. It may be a weight loss program, a muscle building program, a program for a competition or a eating program to help restore our health. Whatever the case, sometimes we mess up. But when we mess up, should we give up? Absolutely not! Everyday were given 24 hours but it's up to us to use them effectively.

If you find yourself cheating or deviating from your meal plan because you just can't beat your craving, you shouldn't beat yourself up. Instead, you should take note of what events led up to your deviating from your plan, how you felt after, what you can do next time to avoid messing up and finally MOVE ON. The same way you wouldn't throw away $23 if you managed to lose $1, you should never throw away an entire day to unhealthy eating or quitting your plan because of one disruption. As we've all heard before, things happen.

So next time you find yourself eating that cookie, or eating a slice of cake, remember that were all imperfect, things happen and you must move on and forward. Get back on course finishing the day healthy, strong and on track and continue to work towards reaching your goal.

alicia-bell-toronto-fitness-inspiration

I may have always been an athlete. But since moving to Toronto to be a personal trainer and fitness expert I’ve had many ups and downs in my life on my personal fitness journey. Big set backs continuously seemed to occur. They always needed up preventing me from reaching my fitness goals each time. However never did I get down on myself. I always picked myself up each and every time and kept going. I did not complain and I did not blame anyone or anything for my circumstances.

First I had a full and complete ACL tear. When this happened at the same time I also ended up rupturing my meniscus while fracturing the tibia at its plateau. It took me over a month post op to even be able to do a full cycle on a pedal bike. I had to have a second surgery less than a year later to remove scar tissue and shots of synvisc (a synthetic synovial fluid) as well. To this day I still don’t have full range of motion. Did this stop me? No. Does it prevent me from doing anything? No. Do I use it as an excuse? No.

Then the following spring I was on my way to coach my track team and a cab driver cut me off as I was riding my motorcycle through an intersection. I t-boned him and flew over the cab. Hit my knee that I had the ACL repair on pretty bad, got whip lash, hurt my back, got road rash and also had my hand caught in the street car track as I was sliding. Did this stop me? No. Does it prevent me from doing anything? No. Do I use it as an excuse? No.

Finally, as I was still going through physio for my motorcycle accident I had some crazy symptoms. The biggest and most obvious one was that I was exhausted all day long and had no energy (very unusual for me). So I went to the doctor and they did some scans and said you have to go to emergency now! I still had no idea why. They admitted me and performed an emergency surgery to remove a mass of cells in my stomach. This mass was very rare. And no it wasn’t cancer. From September until November I had to have blood work every week to monitor my body and make sure it didn’t come back. And it came back. Again very rare. Based on where it was my only option was chemotherapy. I had 7 rounds before I got to ring the bell that I completed my chemo! Wahoo! The whole time I kept on training my clients and I even began my very first prep while still undergoing chemo. The chemo made me very puffy and swollen but I didn’t get down on myself. I honestly didn’t even tell many people. Did this stop me? No. Does it prevent me from doing anything? No. Do I use it as an excuse? No.

I hope that you realize that sometimes the journey can be hard and tiring. There may be obstacles in your way but persevere, follow the plan, find a support system and be honest! Good things will happen and your consistency will pay off! Don’t give up and don’t let anyone or any circumstance bring you down!

I am not perfect. I am still working on this one. CONFIDENCE IS SILENT. INSECURITIES ARE LOUD.

Rhonda RouseyThank your Ronda Rousey for reminding us all that confidence doesn't need to be screamed from the rooftops. There is a time and a place but it is not always needed.

Fears-Karen-Civil

I was recently reading John Maxwells book, The 15 Invaluable Laws of growth. One particular subject that struck me the most was a section on fear. We all have different fears. Our fears keep us from being successful at goals that we wish to achieve. Obviously fitness goals are included. According to Maxwell five factors come in to play when it comes to your fears:

1. Fear of failure.
2. Fear of trading security for the unknown.
3. Fear of being overextended financially.
4. Fear of what others will say or think.
5. Fear that success will alienate peers.Which one of the previous effects your fitness goals? We all have fears. In order to see results we must face these fears and have a stone faith in ourselves to overcome them. You have to believe in yourself before anyone else will believe in you. So I want to encourage you to face your fears and go after your goals right now. Don’t put it off until later. Start right now. Face your fitness fears today. Don’t be afraid of failure or whatI what people will think of you in the gym change your thinking. Don’t be scared of what people will say about you. Go to the gym and do it for yourself. Those who really matter will support you. Fitness is tough but the more you make it a habit the less scary it is and the easier it becomes.
