People are nowadays increasingly health conscious. Most of us want to look and feel our best on a consistent basis. As such, you may feel, if you are into video games, that you should swap Call of Duty and Super Mario for the gym, Yoga and Kale smoothies. You may feel that gaming is not healthy, and cannot be part of a healthy person’s regimen. However, this may not be the case.

A lot of research has actually shown that gaming can actually be good for you. Gaming can improved the efficiency of the brain areas responsible for spatial awareness, memory, planning and other cognitive skills. As well as this, it can reduce the feelings of pain in those who have chronic pain, and can lessen feelings of trauma in those who have been involved in traumatic events.

Granted, gaming will not improve your physique, and you cannot regularly replace a gym session with a gaming marathon if you want to stay trim. However, it can be part of your regime, and can actually help you keep your brain healthy, while you take care of your body.

So, gaming can help you wind down after a long week, and may even help to reduce the pain after a particularly tough gym session. If you want to learn more about the benefits of gaming, peruse the infographic below produced by those at Computer Planet.

Mediterranean Diet May Help Protect Older Adults from Becoming Frail

An analysis of published studies indicates that following the Mediterranean diet may reduce the risk of frailty in older individuals. The findings, which are published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, suggest that a diet emphasizing primarily plant-based foods—such as fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and nuts—may help keep people healthy and independent as they age.

Frailty is common among older people and its prevalence is increasing as the population ages. Frail older adults may often feel low in energy and have weight loss and weak muscle strength. They are more likely to suffer from numerous health concerns, including falls, fractures, hospitalization, nursing home placement, disability, dementia, and premature death. Frailty is also associated with a lower quality of life.

Nutrition is thought to play a crucial role in developing frailty, a team led by Kate Walters, PhD and Gotaro Kojima, MD, of University College London, in the UK, looked to see if following a healthy diet might decrease one’s risk of frailty.

The researchers analyzed evidence from all published studies examining associations between adherence to a Mediterranean diet and development of frailty in older individuals. Their analysis included 5789 people in four studies in France, Spain, Italy, and China.

“We found the evidence was very consistent that older people who follow a Mediterranean diet had a lower risk of becoming frail,” said Dr. Walters. “People who followed a Mediterranean diet the most were overall less than half as likely to become frail over a nearly four-year period compared with those who followed it the least.”

The investigators noted that the Mediterranean diet may help older individuals maintain muscle strength, activity, weight, and energy levels, according to their findings. “Our study supports the growing body of evidence on the potential health benefits of a Mediterranean diet, in our case for potentially helping older people to stay well as they age,” said Dr. Kojima.

Although older people who followed a Mediterranean diet had a lower risk of becoming frail, it’s unclear whether other characteristics of the people who followed this diet may have helped to protect them. “While the studies we included adjusted for many of the major factors that could be associated—for example, their age, gender, social class, smoking, alcohol, how much they exercised, and how many health conditions they had—there may be other factors that were not measured and we could not account for,” said Dr. Walters. “We now need large studies that look at whether increasing how much you follow a Mediterranean diet will reduce your risk of becoming frail.”

Texas A&M research shows biological clocks could improve brain cancer treatment

(COLLEGE STATION, Texas) — Biological clocks throughout the body play a major role in human health and performance, from sleep and energy use to how food is metabolized and even stroke severity. Now, Texas A&M University researchers found that circadian rhythms could hold the key to novel therapies for glioblastoma, the most prevalent type of brain cancer in adults—and one with a grim prognosis.

Scientists in the Texas A&M Center for Biological Clocks Research (CBCR) determined that the timed production of a particular protein, associated with tumor proliferation and growth, is disrupted in glioblastoma cells, and they believe that this may lead to a more effective technique to treat the cancerous cells without damaging the healthy surrounding tissue. These findings, which were supported in part by the National Institutes of Health, published today in the international journal BMC Cancer.

Texas A&M biologist Deborah Bell-Pedersen, PhD, a co-corresponding author on the study, found in her previous research that the biological clock in the model fungal system Neurospora crassa controls daily rhythms in the activity of a signaling molecule, called p38 mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK). This signaling protein plays a role in glioblastoma’s highly invasive and aggressive properties.

In the new research, David J. Earnest, PhD, a mammalian biological clocks expert at the Texas A&M College of Medicine and co-corresponding author on the study, collaborated with Bell-Pedersen to show that the clock controls daily rhythms in p38 MAPK activity in a variety of mammalian cells as well, including normal glial cells, the supporting “helper” cells surrounding neurons.

Furthermore, their work found that such regulation is absent in glioblastoma cells. “We tested to see if inhibition of this cancer-promoting protein in glioblastoma cells would alter their invasive properties,” said Bell-Pedersen, an internationally recognized leader in the fields of

circadian and fungal biology. “Indeed, we found that inhibition of p38 MAPK at specific times of the day—times when the activity is low in normal glial cells under control of the circadian clock—significantly reduced glioblastoma cell invasiveness to the level of noninvasive glioma cells.”

These findings indicate that glioblastoma might be a good candidate for chronochemotherapy, meaning treating cancer at specific times of day to get the most impact.

“Chronotherapeutic strategies have had a significant positive impact on the treatment of many types of cancer by optimizing the specific timing of drug administration to improve the efficacy and reduce the toxicity of chemotherapy,” Bell-Pedersen said. “However, circadian biology has not been applied to the development of chronotherapeutic strategies for the treatment of glioblastoma, and clinical outcomes for this common primary brain tumor have shown limited improvement over the past 30 years.”

Glioblastomas gained some attention this summer when Senator John McCain was diagnosed with the condition. “A big reason for poor prognosis for patients with this aggressive type of tumor is that the glioblastoma cells rapidly and unabatedly invade and disrupt the surrounding brain cells,” said Gerard Toussaint, MD, a clinician and assistant professor at the Texas A&M College of Medicine who specializes in glioblastoma. Current treatments—including chemotherapy, surgical resection, immunotherapy and radiation—are largely ineffective in prolonging life expectancy beyond 18 months.

“We found that an inhibitor of p38 MAPK activity would make the cells behave less invasively, and if you can control the invasive properties, you can improve prognosis,” Earnest said. In addition, the team’s data indicate such treatment may be more effective and less toxic if administered at the appropriate time of the day.

This reduced toxicity is important, because a drug to inhibit the cancer-promoting activity of this protein was tested but found to be too harmful, with too many side effects. “If treatment with the drug can be timed to when the normal glial cells naturally have low activity of p38 MAPK, the addition of the drug might not be as toxic for these cells, and yet would still be very effective on the cancerous cells,” Earnest said.

Although promising, the current studies were done using cell cultures. The team’s next step is to test p38 inhibitor chronochemotherapy in an animal model for glioblastoma. If successful, they would then move on to clinical trials.

“We work on a model system, and the reason to do that is that we can make progress quickly, and we always hope that what we’re working on will lead to something useful, and I think this is a prime example of how putting effort into basic research can pay off,” Bell-Pedersen said. “We’re very hopeful and encouraged by our data that we’ll find a treatment.”

The research was initiated by Charles S. Goldsmith, first author on the study and a previous graduate student in the Interdisciplinary Genetics Program who completed his dissertation research in Bell-Pedersen’s CBCR-affiliated laboratory.

Cancer targeted with reusable ‘stinging nettle’ treatment

  • Cancer cells killed more effectively and selectively with a new approach, using a substance found in stinging nettles & ants – new University of Warwick research
  • New treatment JPC11 can be recycled and reused within cancer cells to attack them repeatedly – a unique approach in the fight against cancer
  • Could lessen side-effects of chemotherapy and overcome increasing resistance of cancer cells to existing drugs
  • Research published in Nature Chemistry

Cancer cells can be destroyed more effectively and selectively with a unique new reusable treatment, activated with a substance found in stinging nettles and ants - thanks to new research by the University of Warwick.

JPC IRC

Led by Professor Peter J. Sadler from Warwick’s Department of Chemistry, researchers have developed a new line of attack against cancer: an organic-osmium compound, which is triggered using a non-toxic dose of sodium formate, a natural product found in many organisms, including nettles and ants.

Named JPC11, it targets a metabolic process which cancer cells rely on to survive and multiply. It does this by converting a key substance used by cancer cells to provide the energy they need for rapid division (pyruvate) into an unnatural lactate - leading to the cells’ destruction.

Uniquely, this chemo-catalyst treatment can be recycled and reused within a cancer cell to attack it repeatedly.

This unprecedented functional ability to recycle and reuse the compound within cancer cells could lead to future anticancer drugs being administered in smaller, more effective, and potentially less toxic doses - decreasing the side-effects of chemotherapy.

The researchers have been focusing on the potential to use this compound on ovarian and prostate cancers.

Ovarian cancers are becoming increasingly resistant to existing chemotherapy drugs (such as the platinum drug, cisplatin). Since this new research functions in a totally new and unique way, it may overcome this acquired resistance and widen the spectrum of anticancer activity.

Importantly, the development opens up a possibility for a more selective cancer treatment as JPC11 was observed to specifically target the biochemistry of cancer cells, leaving healthy cells largely untouched – another improvement compared to existing platinum-based drugs, which can also attack non-cancerous cells.

Dr James Coverdale, a Research Fellow from Warwick’s Department of Chemistry, commented:

“This is a significant step in the fight against cancer. Manipulating and applying well-established chemistry in a biological context provides a highly selective strategy for killing cancer cells.

“We have discovered that chemo-catalyst JPC11 has a unique mechanism of action – and we hope that this will lead to more effective, selective and safer treatments in the future.”

JPC11_4

Professor Peter Sadler, a medicinal chemist at the University of Warwick commented:

“Platinum compounds are the most widely used drugs for cancer chemotherapy, but we urgently need to respond to the challenges of circumventing resistance and side-effects. Our lab is focussed on the discovery of truly novel anticancer drugs which can kill cells in totally new ways. Chemo-catalysts, especially those with immunogenic properties, might provide a breakthrough.

“It will take time to progress from the lab to the clinic, but we are fortunate to have a talented enthusiastic, international team working with colleagues in Warwick Cancer Research Centre across the borderlines of chemistry, cell and systems biology and cancer medicine who are determined to succeed.”

Professor Martin Wills, catalyst specialist at the University of Warwick, commented:

“Although asymmetric catalytic hydrogenation processes are well developed in the materials industry, this research provides the first ever example of it being achieved inside cells using a synthetic catalyst.”

Handedness (molecular asymmetry) is critical to the function of bio-molecules in the body. Proteins, enzymes and our DNA, for example - are handed. Only the correct hand works, in the same way that a right hand does not fit a left-hand glove.

In this case, the osmium compound JPC11, with sodium formate, can selectively produce a molecule of a specific ‘handedness’ – thus manipulating how cancer cells grow.

Dr Coverdale explained:

The ‘handedness’ of molecules is critical in the body. Our hands are near-identical, but are mirror images of each other. The same can be true of molecules, and in some cases, having the wrong handed molecule can have profound biological consequences.

“We believe that manipulation of the ‘handedness’ of molecules in cells could provide a new strategy for fighting diseases.

Notes:

The research, ‘Asymmetric transfer hydrogenation by synthetic catalysts in cancer cells’, is published in Nature Chemistry. DOI: 10.1038/NCHEM.2918

It is authored by Dr James P C Coverdale, Dr Isolda Romero-Canelon, Dr Carlos Sanchez-Cano, Dr Abraha Habtemariam, Professor Martin Wills and Professor Peter J Sadler.

It was funded by the European Research Council, Science City (Advantage West Midlands and the European Regional Development Fund), The University of Warwick, Bruker Daltonics, the Engineering and Physical Research Council and Cancer Research UK.

FOREO Launches New UFO Smart Mask at CES to Revolutionize 2017’s Biggest Beauty Trend
How A Crowdfunding Gamechanger Just Disrupted The Sheet Mask Industry
STOCKHOLM / LAS VEGAS, January 9, 2018: Today, Swedish brand FOREO launched its newest beauty-tech device, the UFO, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Las Vegas, making it available to pre-order in partnership with crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. The FOREO UFO is described as the world’s first smart mask treatment to offer spa-level facial treatments in just 90 seconds, combining LED light therapy with cryo-therapy, thermo-therapy and T-Sonic pulsations activated via your smartphone.
Face masks were 2017’s biggest beauty trend in skincare, officially the category’s number one searched term in Google and accounting for more than 40% of online sales for beauty companies worldwide. With the launch of UFO (Ur Future Obsession), FOREO is aiming to kickstart a face mask revolution, tackling the core issues of limited penetration, poor facial coverage, and the time spent using them.
“Face masks are the guilty pleasure of millions, but is lying under cold, wet sheets of paper the best we can do for 2018?” Paul Peros, FOREO CEO asks. “After 4 years in development, FOREO’s designers and technicians have proven there is a better way. We’re taking the latest professional beauty technologies available - treatments that can cost thousands of dollars - and incorporating them into one UFO device to unleash the full potential of our face masks. The results are literally out of this world!”
The FOREO UFO, (Ur Future Obsession) has been in development and shrouded in secrecy for four years until today, where it was unveiled at CES in booth #43534. The UFO is set to retail at 279 USD while the UFO mini, and entry level design, will retail at 179 USD. For the pre-launch phase on Kickstarter, however, customers can enjoy savings of up to 50% off.
The UFO Features:
  • Utilizes hyper-infusion technology, combining heating to open pores, T-Sonic™ pulsations to instantly infuse active ingredients more deeply into the skin and cryotherapy to seal the active ingredients and firm the skin.
  • Includes a range of LED light therapy treatments to offer three photofacials, including anti-aging (red LED), brightening (green LED) and anti-acne (blue LED)
  • Each treatment incorporates a carefully chosen combination of temperature and pulsation intensity for maximum effect and soothing facial massage
The device works hand in hand with the specially invented UFO-activated sheet masks. These ultra-soft microfiber masks ensure flawless skin from dawn to dusk and each formula pairs with a unique UFO treatment routine designed to give a wake up call, or to help relax when people are ready to call it a night.
UFO-Activated Smart Mask Treatments:
UFO Smart Masks are made from soft micro-fiber infused with plant and fruit extracts, concentrated botanical oils and natural flower water. Each mask is paired with a pre-programmed UFO treatment routine to boost their effects. There are two masks currently available on launch including:
‘Make My Day’ Mask
Features Hyaluronic Acid and Red Algae for deep hydration combined with pollution protection for radiant skin. The UFO treatment begins with 30 seconds of Thermo-Therapy and Red LED light to prep the skin and open the pores. The next 30 seconds integrate T-Sonic Pulsations to heighten the absorption of the mask essence. The final 30 seconds switch to a Green LED treatment and lower frequency pulsations, to even skin tone and add that radiant boost.
‘Call It A Night’ Mask
Features ginseng and olive oil to nourish and revitalize - a formula that replenishes skin overnight. The treatment begins with 30 seconds of higher-frequency T-Sonic pulsations combined with Thermo-Therapy and Red LED light, to infuse the essence beneath the skin's surface. T-Sonic pulsations then switch to a lower frequency, with the Red LED light retained and Thermo-therapy disabled, to focus on enhanced blood circulation and restoring skin's elasticity.
App-operated Features:
The UFO can be paired with the FOREO app to get the most out of the device. While the ‘Make My Day’ and ‘Call It a Night’ masks are pre-programmed into the device, the FOREO app gives access to all future mask treatments. In addition, users can reorder masks with a simple click and unlock UFO's full potential by customizing the intensity of all UFO settings to perfectly suit individuals skincare needs.
The app will be available for iOS and Android and can:
  • Control the intensity of the T-Sonic pulsations
  • Control the light intensity
  • Control the heating/cooling
The UFO has all the mutual benefits expected with a FOREO invention including a medical grade silicone body, plus a 100% waterproof design and USB-charging.
"Kickstarter is the perfect place to reach a community open to a genuine beauty revolution,” says Dalia Fernander, FOREO’s Product Marketing Manager. “To succeed, we're wanting to get UFO into the hands of as many people as possible, which is why we're offering up to 50% off the retail price. This way we hope thousands can experience the results and show the world there is a smarter way to mask!"
The UFO is only available for early bird presale through Kickstarter where early adopters and beauty enthusiasts seeking change and innovation can secure theirs now. The UFO and UFO mini are planned to launch in top retail stores from April, 2018. Sick To Death - Press Relese

About Sick to Death!

Thyroid disease, and its accompanying symptoms and related disorders, is a very confusing health challenge. The purpose of the Sick to Death! project is to create a resource for health seekers that can assist in confirming that what they are experiencing may in fact be thyroid disease.  With the assistance of a huge community, the Sick to Death! project seeks to improve the medical establishment’s response to thyroid disease.

In Sick to Death! Hadleigh-West exposes AbbVie Pharmaceuticals and their drug Synthroid, one of the most profitable and most commonly prescribed drugs for thyroid disease - yet it under treats 90% of people that suffer with this illness.  Patients are rarely given options for treatment or even told that there might be a more effective treatment.  Sick to Death! uncovers the often ineffective TSH test which leaves millions of people without proper diagnosis for their chronic illness.

Sick to Death! premiered at the New Orleans Film Festival in October 2017 to two sold out shows and was nominated for an audience award.  It won three Global Film Awards 2017 “Impact Docs” awards, and Hadleigh-West received a Guggenheim Award to make the film.

After drinking radioactive iodine to kill her overactive thyroid, filmmaker Maggie Hadleigh-West catapults into illness only to run smack into a complicated medical maze.  In Sick to Death! Hadleigh-West exposes her own disturbing, yet determined, thirty-year struggle to regain her spiraling health. After seeing hundreds of doctors who either disregarded her symptoms, misdiagnosed or under treated her, Maggie discovers that her life-long thyroid problem was a fully understood medical issue as early as 1914, yet it’s been obscured by systemic medical corruption, pharmaceutical greed, and physician negligence, leaving more than 750 million people sick and suffering world-wide.

Follow Maggie as she brazenly uncovers the medical corruption and negligence that obscures medical practice – only to find yet another disturbing personal revelation. Sick to Death! is both a call-to-action and a quirky film, which seeks to understand and change this disturbing medical reality.

About Maggie Hadleigh-West

In 1991 Maggie Hadleigh-West made the very first film on sexual harassment in public called War Zone which garnered world-wide attention and completed a first feature of the same name in 1998.  Sick to Death! is her fourth film and second documentary.  Hadleigh-West is a 2017 Impact Doc Awards winner, a 2013 Guggenheim Fellow Award Winner, 2010 Indie Fest: Audience Impact Merit Award Winner, 2010 Accolade Merit Award Winner, 2009, 2006, and 2005 Alcyon Foundation Fellow, a 2004 New York State Council on the Arts Fellow, 2001 University of Louisville Distinguished Professor Nominee, 2000 Rockefeller Fellow Nominee and a 1998 Berlin Film Festival Caligari Nominee.

Almost 50% of Canadians would not want others to know if they had dementia, says new survey

Alzheimer Society campaign aims to end stigma

TORONTO, Jan. 7, 2018 /CNW/ - The Alzheimer Society announced today that while awareness about dementia has increased, stigma and negative attitudes around it continue to persist. The Society is releasing findings of a new survey to coincide with Alzheimer's Awareness Month in January and to kick off its new social awareness campaign – I live with dementia. Let me help you understand – to spark conversations and encourage Canadians to see dementia differently.

Almost 50% of Canadians would not want others to know if they had dementia, says new survey (CNW Group/Alzheimer Society of Canada)

The Leger-led survey, which questioned 1500 Canadians between the ages of 18 and 65 online, also reveals that 46% of respondents would feel ashamed or embarrassed if they had dementia, while 61% of those surveyed said they would face discrimination of some kind. The survey also shows that one in four Canadians believe that their friends and family would avoid them if they were diagnosed with dementia, and only five per cent of Canadians would learn more about dementia if a family member, friend or co-worker were diagnosed.

"These results validate our thinking, that stigma is one of the biggest barriers for people with dementia to live fully with dignity and respect," says Pauline Tardif, CEO at the Alzheimer Society of Canada. "The findings underscore the work we must still do to end stigma once and for all. There is no shame in having dementia. We can't let negative perceptions stand in the way of people with dementia seeking help and support. Life without discrimination is a right for anyone affected by this disease."

To tackle stigma, the Alzheimer Society is letting the experts do the talking—people living with dementia. People like Roger Marple. For this proud father and grandfather, who developed young onset Alzheimer's three years ago at age 57, his diagnosis was a tough pill to swallow. But with time, Roger overcame his initial shock and sadness. He had too many dreams to pursue. "I still do things that have meaning in my life, like getting out, playing golf and travelling. I'll continue to enjoy life for as long as I possibly can to the best of my abilities. Isn't that what we all aspire to do?"

Roger and others invite Canadians to hear their inspiring stories and take a few pointers from them on how to be open and accepting towards people with dementia.

Their stories are featured on a dedicated campaign website, where visitors will also find tips on how to be more dementia-friendly, activities to test their knowledge, and other resources to take action against stigma and be better informed about a disease that has the potential to impact every single one of us.

To help stop stigma and read the full survey, visit ilivewithdementia.ca – and use the hashtag #ilivewithdementia to help spread the word.

A NEW FACE FOR DAS MODEL MANAGEMENT IN MIAMI TURNS A SPARK IN TO A SOCIAL MEDIA FIRESTORM THROUGH “THE ART OF BEAUTY”

Colombian-born Natalia Lorenzo joins the agency’s CURVE division and inspires women everywhere with a rebounding confidence that is shooting for the stars

Miami Beach, FL – December 21st, 2017: The newest home-grown talent from South Florida to join DAS Model Management has become an unassuming role model for women around the country and oversees, attracting global media attention from as far as Australia, while becoming the latest social media sensation thanks to an independent exhibition during Miami Art Week.

The 19-year-old Miami native, Natalia Lorenzo, has quickly grown accustomed to having an image management team and public relations professionals around her, since she decided to rebound from her late teenage years as a timid student at Florida International University, to emerge as an aspiring new model with over 50,000 followers on social media. While studying to become a doctor during high school and college, Natalia’s mother, a seamstress by trade, always thought her daughter had a spark for the fashion spotlight. With a wealth of encouragement at home and from her friends, the Colombian-born teenager built enough confidence to submit a series of photos to local modeling agencies in October, while admitting to be extremely self-conscious about her body in the past. The tide of self perception would soon turn for Natalia when DAS Model Management, a full-service international model management agency based in Miami Beach, responded immediately upon seeing her photography and invited her in to their offices. Not knowing where this would lead, Natalia became excited but very nervous to meet a beaming management team who welcomed her with unanticipated delight on the very same day. Natalia’s initial experience upon meeting the world-class group of professionals at DAS Model Management gave her a level of comfort and a new surge of confidence that would subsequently establish her career as an emerging model after signing with the CURVE division at the agency.

“We immediately jumped on this opportunity to sign Natalia, as soon as her photos came through,” says Jennifer Gregory, Director of Client Services at DAS Model Management and its CURVE division. “Natalia embodies the true essence of natural beauty and she has found a new confidence that goes hand-in-hand with becoming an emerging model at the beginning of her career. Through our combined decades of experience and expertise with guiding and managing very promising new Plus size models, emerging talent has been propelled to new heights – establishing some of the biggest names in the business. With the right management style and personal guidance given with every step of the development process, these women were able to excel on the world stage. We look forward to working with Natalia and unleashing her true potential.”

Within two weeks of being signed to the agency, a major national retailer requested Natalia for a booking in New York City where she would spend a day representing one of the largest department stores in the country. Several beauty and fashion brands have since been in contact with DAS, urging Jennifer and her team to field requests for suitable brand partnerships between Natalia and the agency’s top clients.

During Miami Art Week in December, Natalia agreed to participate in an independent exhibit produced by a photographer friend, entitled “The Art of Beauty.” Natalia attended the exhibit in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District on December 10th, after having some revealing photography in underwear taken that would be on display as a five-foot tall poster size canvas. The theme of the exhibition was around women embracing their bodies and individual beauty as an art form – as a way of reinforcing the new social norm. Natalia’s’s excitement at the positive response from those she met at the exhibit and seeing herself in full splendor came in the form of a personal tweet that was instantly shared more than 47,000 times and liked over 215,000 times to this day.

“At a young age I developed self imagery issues about my body,” Natalia tweeted after the exhibit. “It later led to depression and anxiety which I suffered from for years. Recently, I finally broke out of my shell and my face and my body is on a canvas at Art Basel this year. I couldn’t be any more proud of myself.”

After moving to the United States at the age of 7 years old, Natalia started gaining weight and was very shy, while having difficulty managing her diet that continued for two years. During high school in South Florida, she would avoid wearing a swimsuit and feel anxious when going to the beach – hiding in the bathroom or covering herself with a t-shirt. Natalia reveals how she often did not want to leave her bedroom. By the time Natalia turned 18, she finally had enough and refused to let a perception of her body hold her back from enjoying life. Natalia discovered the joy in social media and taking photos of herself, which helped her view her body in a completely different light, after opening up and sharing her experiences on Instagram to a loving audience.

“I decided to not let the way I look or my insecurities hold me back in life anymore,” says Natalia. “I had missed out on so many good times simply because of my self-perception. I have finally overcome my fears. My goal now is to be an inspiration to other people who have the same issues and be a role model for men and women everywhere while enjoying my new self and outlook on life. Signing with DAS Model Management has been a thrilling turning point in my life and has become a major stepping-stone towards fulfilling my ultimate goal in becoming the best I can possibly be. I hope to change the lives and minds of others throughout the world.”

Natalia plans to use her new career with DAS Model Management as a platform for spreading the belief in personal self-expression, body positivity and individual beauty in every shape and form – particularly through her work as an emerging model while receiving the personal guidance by the best in the business. Natalia’s biggest role model continues to be her Mom, who is most proud of her daughter and looks back on a time when she felt compelled to push Natalia in the right direction.
