Due to the COVID pandemic, more people across the United States are working from home than ever before, approximately 25-30% of the workforce. While there are some bonuses like no commuting in traffic and working in your sweatpants, a major downside has developed: new or worsening neck and back pain. The most logical culprit is makeshift home offices that are not ergonomically correct. Not everyone has the luxury of a designated home office. In the U.S., back pain is a leading cause of missed days at work and school. Without proper care, approximately 20% of people with acute lower-back pain will have persistent symptoms within a year. To add insult to injury, many are afraid to seek outside care for fear of exposing themselves to people during the pandemic.
PRODUCT DETAILS

Effortlessly release low back tension
Roll out headaches and neck pain
Sleep better by relaxing tight muscles
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Chirp Wheel is designed to fit perfectly between your shoulder blades, targeting the muscles that go up and down your spine. As your back is strained from the countless activities you do, those muscles lock up, and cause even more pain. The Chirp Wheel massages those muscles, relaxing your back and relieving all of the pain.
What age range is Chirp Appropriate For? Chirp’s customers range from 18-80. The Wheels can even hold up to 500 lbs, so it's built 100% PVC free and won't break. If your back pain is the result of a serious accident or injury, please consult a doctor first.
How often should one use the Chirp Wheel +
It is recommended that the Chirp Wheel+ is used for 5-10 minutes a day, or as needed. The Chirp Wheel+ is designed to reduce tension, target knots, and help 'open' your vertebrae. Be patient. Your body may need some time to decompress the spine and relax all those tight muscles."
The 3 Problems with Other Back Pain Relief Solutions:
1. They are expensive. Chiropractors are a good option, but feeling like you have to see one every week costs far more in time and money than the Chirp Wheel. In fact, the company has a network of over 3,000 Chiropractors and Physical Therapists that recommend the wheel, especially in-between visits.
2. They don't fit where you need them to. Foam rollers can't put the pressure in the right places to really relieve the pain. The Chirp Wheel has a Patent Pending Spinal Canal™ and Compression Sensitive™ padding to ensure comfort and relief.
3. They don't store well. Inversion tables take up half the living room, and it's impossible to fit a foam roller in your bag when you are on the go. The Chirp Wheel is lightweight and travels easy!
A Difference You Can Feel
Relaxing 4-way stretch with their patented Spinal Canal™
Deep tissue massage with our ergonomic design
Lasting relief with only 5 minutes of rolling out
Sleep better by relaxing tension in your neck, upper back, and lower back
COVID-19 Contributes to Uptick in Opioid-Related Deaths
Baltimore, MD, September 21, 2020 — Social isolation and reduced access to healthcare during the lockdown, among other factors, have led to a rise in opioid-related deaths, experts say. And according to their estimates, it’s only going to get worse. Similarly, Authorities acrossTexas, Pennsylvania, Florida and New York are also reporting rises in overdoses during the COVID-19 crisis.
On the frontlines working to curb the impact of the opioid crisis is Dr. Paul Christo, anAssociate Professor in the Division of Pain Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
"The number of fatalities from opioid-related overdoses could be nearly 30 percent higher than reported due to missing information or incomplete death records,” he says. “The worst fear is that because of social isolation, and people are not being found or treated immediately."
The opioid epidemic today progressed in three phases, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The first involves deaths caused by prescription opioids, the second, an increase in heroin use, and the third, a surge in the use of synthetic opioids or fentanyl. Experts say the U.S. is right in the middle of the third phase of the epidemic, due to the increasing availability of fentanyl and increasing rates of overdose deaths involving synthetic opioids.
According to a recent study there were 632,331 drug overdoses between 1999 and 2016. Most of these deaths (78.2 percent) were drug overdoses with known drug classification. Moreover, 21.8 percent were unclassified drug overdoses. A further investigation revealed that for unclassified drug overdoses, 71.8 percent involved opioids, translating to 99,160 additional opioid-related deaths.
There were over 70,000 drug overdose deaths in 2017, according to an estimate from the CDC. Based on findings from the new study, over half of those deaths — about 47,000 — are suspected of having involved opioids.
Another study on opioid overdoses found that the number of drug overdose deaths decreased by 4 percent from 2017 to 2018. In 2018, more than 67,000 people died from drug overdoses, making it a leading cause of injury-related death in the United States. Almost 70 percent involved a prescription or illicit opioid of those deaths.
“COVID 19 impacted the drug supply chain by closing borders on some regions, and it led to the higher death rate,” Dr. Christo explained. He added that drugs become more challenging to get, and the potency of overdose goes up. It also impacts the price, everything goes up, and in that sense, it becomes more deadly each day, according to Dr. Christo.

Sunnybrook launches the Dr. Sandra Black Centre for Brain Resilience & Recovery with $10-million gift
TORONTO, Sept. 21, 2020 /CNW/ - On World Alzheimer's Day – dedicated to raising awareness about the devastating impact that Alzheimer's and other dementias have on countless lives worldwide – Sunnybrook is pleased to announce a generous and timely investment from a local philanthropist who chooses to remain anonymous.
This $10-million gift launches the Dr. Sandra Black Centre for Brain Resilience & Recovery at Sunnybrook. The Centre is named in honour of renowned Sunnybrook neurologist Dr. Sandra Black, whose vast contributions to the field of brain health and tremendous ability as a physician inspired the donor to make a lead investment.
With this donation, the Centre is set to lead the way with novel and innovative approaches to support brain resilience that will eventually help the brain recover from these challenging neurological conditions.
"During the unprecedented global crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic, it's important to continue fighting back against another threat to global health, which is Alzheimer's and dementia," says Dr. Andy Smith, Sunnybrook's President and CEO. "We couldn't be more grateful for this generous investment, and we're honoured that the donor has named the Centre after such a gifted physician, scientist, mentor and leader. I know that Dr. Black and her team will continue to be on the cutting edge of research and push the limits in search of solutions to the world's most challenging brain conditions to help improve the lives of patients and their families."
The Centre builds on years of research and unites Sunnybrook's internationally recognized team of dementia experts to attack Alzheimer's and dementia from multiple angles. From investigating biology, therapeutics and risk factors to analyzing big data, Dr. Black's team will seek answers to questions that have hindered progress in treating these disorders to date.
With resources for the Centre, Dr. Black can keep this world-class team at Sunnybrook, where together they are building an extensive volume of research focusing on uncovering the relationship between the brain's microvasculature — the complex, intricate network of small blood vessels — and dementia.
"The relationships among neurovascular disease, aging and dementia are incredibly complex – and a complex disease calls for a multi-faceted approach," says Dr. Sandra Black, inaugural director of the new Centre. "There have been some recent advances in diagnosing dementia, but so far no effective treatments exist. Our aim with this Centre is to help change that by better understanding why some brains are more resilient than others, promoting brain-healthy lifestyle choices, and controlling risk factors such as high blood pressure and diabetes. Our goal is to slow decline and support a personalized recovery. The earlier we intervene, the more we can build on each individual's resilience, regardless of age."
With initial support from the lead donation and the ongoing efforts of Sunnybrook Foundation to reach the Centre's $30-million goal, Sunnybrook's uniquely collaborative team of dementia researchers will have the resources they need to find ways to prevent and treat Alzheimer's and dementia. Without having to wait for annual funds from granting agencies, this gift gives Dr. Black and her team the ability to conduct longer-term research studies and accelerate the pace of this groundbreaking work.
"This is a prime example of the power of philanthropy to advance an important field of medicine, even during a global pandemic," says Dr. Jon Dellandrea, President and CEO of Sunnybrook Foundation. "These resources both secure the legacy of a researcher and clinician who has had a tremendous impact on understanding brain health, and ensure that this legacy of discovery will continue well into the future. The impact of this generous investment will be incalculable as our global population continues to age."
Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is inventing the future of health care for the 1.3 million patients the hospital cares for each year through the dedication of its more than 10,000 staff and volunteers. An internationally recognized leader in research and education and a full affiliation with the University of Toronto distinguishes Sunnybrook as one of Canada's premier academic health sciences centres. Sunnybrook specializes in caring for high-risk pregnancies, critically ill newborns and adults, offering specialized rehabilitation and treating and preventing cancer, cardiovascular disease, neurological and psychiatric disorders, orthopaedic and arthritic conditions and traumatic injuries. The hospital also has a unique and national leading program for the care of Canada's war veterans.

St. Jude expert reminds parents to get children necessary HPV vaccinations
In honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, stay on track with child vaccinations, advises St. Jude expert
“I am asking parents to protect their children by ensuring they get all the necessary vaccinations, including the HPV vaccine,” said Heather Brandt, Ph.D., director of the HPV Cancer Prevention Program at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination—a safe and effective vaccine that has been proven to prevent six different kinds of cancer most commonly developed in adulthood – can safeguard your child from getting cancer later in life.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends four vaccines during adolescence: seasonal flu, Tdap (tetanus toxoid, reduced diphtheria toxoid and acellular pertussis), HPV, and meningococcal conjugate. In the U.S., the first dose of Tdap and meningococcal coverage among adolescents is in the 90th percentile. Unfortunately, HPV vaccination rates are much lower. In 2019, roughly 57% of girls were up to date on HPV vaccination, and boys’ rates were 52%.
“With September both Gynecological Cancer Awareness Month and Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, this is a profound occasion for us to honor those who have these kinds of cancers and to increase awareness of these diseases,” Brandt said. “When it comes to preventing HPV-caused cancers, we have made incredible strides.”
Follow the vaccination schedule from both the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics, Brandt advises. The HPV vaccination is recommended at age 11–12 years and can start at age 9. The catch-up HPV vaccination is recommended for everyone through age 18. This is a two- or three-dose series depending on age at initial vaccination.
“While we do not yet have a way to prevent the pediatric cancers that afflict most of our patients at St. Jude, we can prevent HPV cancers,” Brandt said. “Talk with your child’s doctor about getting the HPV vaccine and don't miss this chance to make sure your child is protected in the future.”
Each year in the U.S., 34,800 men and women are diagnosed with an HPV-related cancer, and several hundred thousand more are diagnosed with pre-cancerous conditions (such as women having abnormal Pap tests and testing positive for HPV).
Brandt recently authored a guest opinion piece, Don’t Delay Your Child’s Vaccinations, for Newsweek highlighting the importance of child immunizations.

“There are few issues more important in the world right now than developing a successful vaccine for COVID-19. Governments globally should seriously consider the use of challenge trials as a way to speed up the vaccine development process and, by doing so, potentially save thousands of lives and billions of dollars in lasting economic damage."
