Shortly, the decision will be made as to whether or not hemp will be viewed as the agricultural commodity it is, and not as a controlled substance. We are asking that you lock arms with us and join the movement to permanently legalize hemp
Our movement received strong backing as we recently learned that Mitch McConnell (R-KY) will be helping to lead the charge as he has personally named himself to the conference committee which means he will be in the room when the final decision regarding hemp will be handed down.
If you have been watching the impact hemp has been having on our friends, community, and even our economy, the decision to join us in support becomes a simple one. It was a leading cash crop grown by many of our nation's founders, and was critical to U.S. efforts in both world wars. While farming hemp was made illegal in the 20th century, imported hemp products have been sold in every state for decades, an almost billion-dollar import industry. We believe those jobs and economic opportunity belong in the U.S
Also, nothing is more grass roots than the farming industry and farmers are calling out to legalize hemp. The American Farm Bureau Federation and the National Farmers Union are calling for the passing of bi-partisan House and Senate bills that remove hemp from the Controlled Substances Act, and once that is done – with your help – it will release an exciting new industry that will stand for generations to come.
Senator McConnell went on record back in June regarding hemp to say, "Consumers across America buy hundreds of millions in retail products every year that contain hemp," McConnell said in a floor speech on Thursday. "But due to outdated federal regulations that do not sufficiently distinguish this industrial crop from its illicit cousin, American farmers have been mostly unable to meet that demand themselves. It's left consumers with little choice but to buy imported hemp products from foreign-produced hemp."
