Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) Workout, Lightning Fit, Adds Fourth SoCal Boutique Studio in Los Angeles; Plans Two NYC Locations Fall 2021
Lighting Fit is bucking the current trend that saw 17% of all fitness locations in the U.S. permanently shut down in 2020 (IHRSA), while big box gyms 24 Hour Fitness & Gold’s Gym filed for bankruptcy*
LOS ANGELES, May 20, 2021 – Lightning Fit, the first wireless FDA-cleared, whole-body electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) technology in the U.S., announced today the opening of its latest boutique studio on the westside of Los Angeles in the neighborhood of Brentwood. The studio is the second in the greater Los Angeles area, joining a Lightning Fit studio that opened in the beachfront city of Hermosa Beach in 2020. Lightning Fit also plans to open two studios in New York City by Fall 2021.
“We are innovating the fitness industry by optimizing people through smart technologies,” said Colleen McNutt, Founder and CEO of Lightning Fit, a wholly owned women’s business enterprise. “Even with the impacts from COVID, Lightning Fit has continued to forge a pathway forward to expand our presence. Our customer base continues to grow exponentially with an offering our competitors can’t match.”
Lightning Fit’s targeted muscle activation, wireless technology, and personal trainer-controlled workout stimulates 95% of muscle fibers, equating to roughly 2-3 hours of traditional training. Lighting Fit can be done twice a week and takes just 25 minutes.
With Lightning Fit’s targeted muscle activation (TMA), Lightning Fit recruits 30% more muscle fibers than a traditional workout, which typically engages about 65% of muscle fibers. This is done with enhanced neuromuscular connection, enabling users to employ these additional muscle fibers to increase power, speed, and agility. Lightning Fit simultaneously contracts slow and fast twitch muscle fibers, which increases a user’s capability and structural stability.
Lightning Fit produces a workout that is simultaneously ultra-low impact and incredibly effective by torching up to 700 calories per workout, while spiking the user’s metabolism. Lightning Fit’s whole-body EMS system includes electrodes located in the vest, pants, arms, and calves. Lightning Fit suits are the premier wireless product on the market, with fully integrated cabling to allow for freedom of movement and flexibility. The technology activates up to 13 muscle groups at one time including Type I and II muscle fibers at all times.
Lightning Fit’s EMS technology was developed in Europe and has quickly expanded there; there are 1,700 EMS studios in Germany and Austria alone. And, now with Lightning Fit expanding in the U.S., this form of clinical fitness is innovating the fitness industry in America.
In addition to Brentwood and Hermosa Beach, Lightning Fit has studios in Orange County: Costa Mesa and Dana Point. Lightning Fit also has a fleet of mobile trainers serving clients all across the U.S. All sessions either in studio or not, adhere to strict CDC guidelines regarding COVID-19 safety protocols.
Consumers can experience Lightning Fit with the three (3) session intro offer in-studio for $150, a 10-pack of semi-private (2-4 people per class) sessions for $475, a personalized one-on-one training pack of 10 for $675, or 10 mobile training sessions where a certified personal trainer comes to you for $975.

ABOUT LIGHTNING FITLightning Fit was founded by 31-year-old Colleen McNutt, a former NCAA D1 Volleyball player, who found that the demands of her job at a major accounting firm forced her to find a more efficient way to workout. Having been introduced to Electric Muscle Stimulation (EMS) devices during a health scare, she brought the technology to the U.S. and Lightning Fit was born. Lightning Fit is a 25-minute strength training concept that utilizes electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) technology to optimize performance, and reduce muscular imbalances in both elite and “everyday” athletes. It engages 95% of muscle fibers as compared to traditional workouts which only engage 65%. Most significantly though, is that one 25-minute session yields an equivalent workload as 2-3 hours of traditional strength training.
