Hard Work Pays Off as Single Mom Moves to Finals in Mompreneur Awards
CALGARY, Feb. 20, 2019 /CNW/ - Torill Myre, local Calgary mom and founder of Torill's Table has been named as a finalist for the 2019 Mompreneur Award. The single mom made the final top 30 of 1250 women who were shortlisted for the honour, due to her dedication to her business and success of her traditional Norwegian waffle mix.
The Mompreneur Award finalists are a collective of powerful women in business that have a strong dedication to their craft and passion for both family and business - which have set them apart from other entrepreneurs in Canada. Each finalist submitted an essay describing the innovation of their product, how they try to inspire others and more.
Torill's Table was born out of Myre's desire to sit down with her kids and eat something as convenient and filling as it was nutritious. "Sitting down at the table, even if it was for only five minutes, was and continues to be so important for our family," says Myre. That's when she created a nourishing waffle mix that was easy to prepare and tasted just like home. "All of a sudden, moms were asking me for bags of my mix," says Torill. "I grew up in Norway, so it was a family ritual to eat vafler every week. I wanted to bring that little piece of home to Canada."
What sounds like a smooth success story couldn't be further from her truth. "Running a business and parenting has been a juggling act," she says. Myre credits part of her success to her sons that are now ages 22, 21 and 19, who jumped right into the business and helped with warehouse tasks and selling at demos and markets. "We couldn't have done it unless we stuck together," she says proudly.
Torill graduated from Arlene Dickinson's accelerator program, District Ventures, in June of 2018 and received an investment from the business mogul to help expand her business. She was chosen for the program because of her business acumen, innovation of product and most importantly, the passion she has for supporting her family.
Stay tuned to see if this impressive entrepreneur will win this year's award at the 2019 National Mompreneur Conference on March 1st in Toronto.
