Healthcare Workers Rally at Revera Retirement Homes to Demand More Investment In Resident Care

RICHMOND HILL, ON, May 4, 2019 /CNW/ - On Saturday, May 4, 2019, hundreds of SEIU Healthcare members rallied in front of various Revera Inc. retirement homes across Ontario during their national open houses and raised awareness about the need for more investments in resident care.

SEIU Healthcare, a union that represents 60,000 frontline healthcare workers including staff at several Revera homes, is calling on Revera to increase their staffing levels immediately.

"Understaffing at long-term care and retirement homes in Ontario has become an epidemic," said SEIU Healthcare President Sharleen Stewart. "Without adequate staffing levels at these homes, the residents, who are paying thousands of dollars of month, are not getting the quality care they deserve."

Residents and their family members have expressed that the issues arise as a result of a lack of staffing. SEIU Healthcare is calling on the public to send a letter to Revera's CEO Thomas G. Wellner at www.tellthemtocare.ca to insist Revera invest more of their profits into resident care.
